Baltimore Ravens and Terrell Suggs Reach New Deal

The Baltimore Ravens and Terrell Suggs have agreed on a 4 year extension. Many were wondering if the Ravens would part ways with Suggs after the Ravens missed the playoffs for the first time in Jon Harbaugh’s six year tenure. This was especially concerning considering the Ravens already parted ways with Ed Reed and Anquan Boldin last year. This is a great move by the Ravens, who need to rebuild on both sides of the ball. Suggs will get “only” $1 million next season, and then earn $4-4.5 million the remaining years, with an $11 million signing bonus. With the smaller amount of money they are giving Suggs for next season, this will free up some cap space ($ 4 million) for the Ravens to make some moves and add a couple more weapons on either side of the ball.

Suggs lead the Ravens in sacks last season, but he is 31. Do you think the Ravens should have let Suggs walk and try to rebuild the Linebacker core, or other areas on the team at a cheaper cost? Or was this the best move for the Ravens?

Other teams such as the Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles are going to have to face these issues this offseason as well, with guys like Maurice Jones Drew and Mike Vick. I wrote about this issue in a previous article, so I won’t get into it here, but with the New Orleans Saints and Ravens making the first big move of the offseason, who do you think will be next to sign or release some big names?
